The Magic Flute follows the story of Tamino, a young prince sent on a quest by The Queen of the Night to save her daughter, Pamina. Along his journey he is met with a variety of trials and challenges, and learns that nothing is ever “day and night.” In this retelling of the Magic Flute, we leaned into the idea that not everything is as it seems while shedding light on issues surrounding sexism, classism, and the dangers of patriarchal values that are so prevalent in the original text.
